Runaway by Wendelin Van Draanen (Children’s book 2006)

Mrs.Moen, I’d like you to meet Holly. Holly is 13 years old and doesn’t really have a home. Her mother died from drugs when Holly was little. Holly has foster parents that are unkind and brutal. She loves to play with dogs and wishes she had a room. Through out the summer Holly tries to get away from her horrible foster parents so she runs away. She is so smart and determined to runaway. When she runs away she is homeless and very resourceful. She lives in different places and she tries to get into some shelters but they say that she has to have a parent. Holly takes a homeless person of the road and gets in the shelter. After the shelter she lives with a family under a bridge and she also wonders from place to place trying to live hoping no one will relies her.
